do real men wear drainpipe jeans and mascara?

"what happened to cbgb's?
where the hell is mayor koch?

...where's mister magic?
what happened to rap music?
what happened to the passion?
does anyone have a diaper wipe?
is there a mister softee truck in the house?

how many ramones are still alive?"-m.d.r.

was outside and never got in.
went to see chamberlain at brownie's instead.
bought the first inside cd in line from v.c.
all my dc crew was there.
before i'd even met them...

ok maybe this photo can express...

if i could have described my mood this past weekend i would use the word effervescent. nicole's been pretty great at capturing that in photos over the years. my own personal documentarian.

at one point we were eating at pick me up. issa and nicole have the amazing ability to turn 30 year old me into 17 year old me. issa's favorite term for me back then was "nicole's sidekick". they always know how to push my buttons.

my tactic as of late is just to ignore, keep talking, glaze over whatever is said.

at one point nicole literally spits water out all over the table, her friend and issa, after one of his more funny/obnoxious/scathing comments. luckily, i wasn't in the line of fire.

if i hadn't grown up,  literally, in this scene...
if i hadn't been the girl hanging out with all dudes...
if i hadn't been the target of a constant barrage of jokes, taunts and teases...
(cause i will almost always react and people love my reactions.)

my skin wouldn't be so thick.
i wouldn't be as confident and stubborn and sarcastic and sassy and outspoken as i am...

i wouldn't be me.

and i think i'm pretty fucking amazing.

for anyone who says that's a cocky or obnoxious statement to make...

if you don't love you, who else will?

why must i contest myself?

"i'm a jet pilot..."

woke up on a couch in wicker park in chicago. bruised. exhausted. ears ringing.

took the train to midway. running out of time, ran through airport. flight ended up delayed 2 hours. walked zombified through the terminals looking at chicago shirts, shot glasses, etc. bought my mom a magnet. one for my apt too. recognized kids from the show checking in for other flights. read the "burning fight" book that i ended up with after holding it for a ny friend. loaned it out on the flight.

i'm pretty much a professional at how to kill time in airports. for someone who doesn't travel for work.

detroit airport on 4th of july for about 15 hours.

gatwick airport for 10 on my last day of vacation.

jfk for hours and hours during a snowstorm. that one was the worst. everyone sleeping on the floor. no room to walk. a fire alarm that kept going off. people ready to fight pilots and flight attendants. (but at least that time i could go home and give up.)

"i'm a jet pilot
never sit still..."

track 11.

happy birthday to my favorite cousin! the best red head in the world. xoxo.

(if you hear this song a hundred times it still won't be enough...)

Your Horoscope - Today, May 1, 2009
Give your loved ones the attention they need today. Don't let another day go by without telling them that you love them. Life is short and getting shorter with each passing day. Feel free to be confrontational about a serious issue that needs to be addressed. You are responsible for your own feelings. Do not play the role of the victim. You will only experience more pain and resentment later on.

get up kids. syracuse, ny. westcott community center.

tonight i'll be in chicago but my friends will be at the get up kids show in ny. they are one of those bands that are intrinsically tied to my teens/early 20's. if the movie of my life had a soundtrack, there would be at least a couple get up kids songs on it.

tattoo convention in worcester shannon and i went to during the dc sniper rampage. she tried to convince me to get the pilgrim hat from the road signs as a tattoo. "mass pike" on repeat. way home a car followed us forever. we freaked out and considered boston version of dc sniper.

"woodson" is driving along in erin's car, singing at the top of our lungs. i'm 18. she's 20. we're both single. going to shows. having fun. shopping at thrift stores for random stuff. (my brownie camera. my antique polaroid.) going up to baltimore to see dubin for halloween and making last minute costumes before the get up kids/mxpx show. another show at water street in rochester right after i move home from dc and right before she moves away to london.

almost glad i'm away this weekend. the last time i saw get up kids play was the best. drive with joel to buffalo. we are older than everyone there. comment on the college atmosphere. (dashboard headlined.) we go out separate ways til after the show. joel and i are so alike, yet so different.

casino niagara. joel is happy as a clam, since he looooovvees poker! don't see him for hours. my crew is gambling with leftover canadian money. jack daniels flows. we drunk dial amy at some point. (she's obsessed with their "amy" song. which is about a car, not a girl.)

the week before we'd all been at a riverboat casino in louisiana. same scenario, but with american bills. that weekend was amazing, but i look back on it with a bittersweet taste in my mouth. for so many reasons. salad days. things will never be that simple again.

drive home from canada. wired! hahaha. joel crashes and i put his ipod on the smiths. there are 80 songs, enough to get me through sunrise and back to the cuse.

(did i say i hate driving? sometimes it's the best!)
