21 years when i wrote this song...

promise ring. photo by nicole c. kibert, esq.

on my 21st birthday my ex dropped me off at the promise ring show at black cat. instead of going with me. (can't count how many times i'd seen madball with him.)

went to 80's night at midnight with my newly legal status to go dancing for the first of many, many, many times with rachel.

i never trusted the russians.

easter dinner crasher.

stella drew me an easter card. i miss my little cousins a little less.

there are 7 cousins in my dad's family. (the "lucky 7".) all girls except the youngest, jack.

when there were only 4 of us we used to torture each other endlessly. gram would make us all easter baskets.

i hated peeps and would dry them out for a few weeks til they got rock hard, then we'd have fights with each other and throw the dried out marshmallows.

my dad always says that having daughters is much worse than having sons. we were/are (?) a handful.

happy bunny day to my peeps. i'm off to crash an easter dinner in maryland...

don't be a hard rock...

i didn't go out last night. fell asleep watching the best cosby show episode ever, "looking back, on kyle's couch.

felt like an idiot when i woke up after the bars in dc were already closed. was supposed to meet up with people at my friend's dj gig and had missed text messages.

erika's in from boston tonight for her sister's birthday/easter. until then i lounge in sweats and watch the sun set over the marshalls/bed bath & bankruptcy/target/best buy complex that's across from where i'm staying.

...when you really are a gem.

agricolarum.

"Invincible, just like you feel. The world is their oyster. They believe they're destined for great things, just like many of you, their eyes are full of hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because, you see gentlemen, these boys are now fertilizing daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? - - Carpe - - hear it? - - Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary."

calvary song.

first sunburn of the year. best, happiest day spent alone in i can't even remember how long!

saw the sunrise. got a big coffee. the weather was perfect. walked around dc for about 6 hours. from columbia heights down to adams morgan. over to GW. onto the white house. the washington monument. lincoln memorial. hirshhorn gardens....

went off the beaten path to a gazebo type domed building and on it came across my great great great great uncle's name. etched in granite. pretty fantastic.

in front of the department of treasury my ipod shuffles to "cash rules everything around me". the perfection of that was the only time i've ever wished i had twitter. i am under no illusion that anyone cares about the minutia of my life. that anyone reads this blog thing amazes me. i text some people about the wu incident and walk on...

spot a tour bus. not really a novel sight in dc. it says "promised land tours". then shuffle decides on lauryn hill "for zion".

in front of the capitol police "coup d'etat" by refused comes on.

remember it's a full moon. weird shit happens.

i'm exhausted. total sensory overload.

if they could bottle the heavily perfumed air from the cherry blossoms blooming right now and sell it, i think there would be no need for prozac anymore.

the smell is intoxicating. after a few hours my allergies inevitably kicked in and i started coughing in the smithsonian. loud echoing coughs in a museum aren't ideal. tomorrow i'll suck it up and buy some clairitin.

p.s. billy is my new bff!

coll-edge.

sara. me. nicole. "punk rock inaugural ball".

me. kyle. westcott community center. piebald show.

adam. nicole. me. rachel. nicole's xmas party.

rachel and i were looking at pictures recently and noticing how much wider we used to smile. how much happier we looked when in dc. before "life" got in the way.

lately i've been laughing out loud, to myself, at stuff i would've barely cracked a smile about last year.

a wise man once told me that i have the power to change the atmosphere in a room. if i'm in a bad mood, i can literally suck the life out of a place. of course it's something i've noticed, but to hear it put so succiently was kind of a shock.

there are people who think they "know me", who view me as a total bitch.

perception versus reality. it's an interesting concept...
