watching the american film institute countdown of "best" movies last night i got to thinking about the classics that i have seen. and those i haven't.
there are certain movies you probably shouldn't let a child under the age of 10 with an overactive imagination watch. the following are ones that my parents thought were ok for me to watch. that i wish i hadn't seen so young.
an 8 year old shouldn't see "the birds". it is a great movie. but save it for later in life...
especially if twenty years later she endeavors to eat lunch outside in midtown manhattan, literally surrounded by pigeons.
"the birds". hitchcock. 1963.
"the andromeda strain". wise. 1971.
...but years later i let my little sister watch "attack of the killer clowns" on hbo with me. to this day she is terrified and creeped out by clowns. at least i didn't make her watch "it"!
post script...
imdb just informed me that the proper title is "attack of the killer klowns from outer space". my sister was still a wreck at her birthday party where they hired a clown before knowing how i scarred her for life. sorry j!
(i heart imdb.)
