on the way to south station i realized i was starving. my sense of geography is horrible. if my first inclination is to go left, where i need to be is probably to the right. inner compass turned upside down. when i first moved to ny i would take the wrong train, usually express instead of local, and end up almost in tears i was so frustrated. somewhere in brooklyn, queens, not where i needed to be in manhattan. until i get lost 3 times i don't remember how to get somewhere.
i finally learned pockets of neighborhoods. LES. midtown. union square. then i figured out how they were connected to one another. trial and error. mostly errors.
in a different city i get really excited when i recognize where i am, where i've been, which way i might take to get to where i need to be. that was the case last night on my way out of boston.
erika didn't know where there was food to be found. i recognized alexis' old dorm from back in the day and announced there was a dunkin donuts on the corner. and was right! laughed to myself remembering how i'd tried to use dd as a landmark before realizing they are everywhere in boston.
apparently in my syracuse meets queens accent "cheese" sounds like "supreme". ended up with a pizza i first attempted to pick sausage off of and then just threw out. bad decision making skills. pizza at dunkin donuts? ugh. they were out of everything at 9:35 pm on a sunday.
a guy in back of me on the bus was snoring like it was his job. no one else could sleep.
i stare out the window for hours at the headlights of passing cars. trying to figure out where the bus is, i look to the right and see a sign saying "stafford springs". which makes me think of my favorite brit and smile to myself.
for staffs.
for being a stoopid dummy.
