world autism awareness day.

today is world autism awareness day. at work we produce all the ad council commercials for autism speaks. (with my girl mariska hargitay from "law & order"!) one of the senior executive producers here has a son with autism, so it's a cause that really hits close to home.

one of my favorite authors, nick hornby, also has a son with autism. he edited a book called "speaking with the angel", a compilation of short stories that you should buy since the proceeds go to two schools serving autistic children, one here in brooklyn and one in england.

i found this on autismspeaks.org:

"Yoko Ono Lennon will unveil an original work called "Promise Piece" that she created for, and was inspired by, WAAD. "Promise Piece" is a unique work of art, done in a style Ms. Ono has been working in for more than two decades, in which a larger work is broken apart into smaller pieces. The 58 signed puzzle pieces will be auctioned throughout the month of April, with the caveat that they are to be "re-united" and re-assembled when the cure for autism is found."
